450

A stray baboon is currently terrorizing residents of Awka, the Anambra State capital.

According to our correspondent, Mr. Odumodu Gbulagu, four people were recorded to have been bitten.

Mr. Odumodu Gbulagu wrote:

“If you are outside in Awka, better go inside as a baboon belonging to Ezenwanyi, opposite St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church escaped from captivity and is terrorizing, maiming and bitting people.

“Four people were recorded to have been bitten, while many said they had been pursued.

“A young girl was also bitten on her way to school this morning. It seems the animal has a thing for women as most of the victims are women.

“The same thing happened last year until the animal was caught and put in the cage again.

“Distress message  has been sent to Government for quick action, but who knows what will come out of it when the Governor and his wife are her clients

“Why would Government not ban individuals from keeping dangerous animals as pets?” he asked.
