Suspension of Ruga: We’ll Not Lose Guard, Niger Delta Group Tells Buhari
Says Ruga is "an act of insult, disrespect on our intelligence and serious act of irresponsibility and betrayal"
The Niger Delta Self-Determination Movement (NDSDM) has said it will not lose guard over the recent announcement by the federal government that it has suspended the Ruga Initiative.
The group made this announcement on Wednesday in a statement made available to ElombahNews, saying that the initiative is “an act of insult, disrespect on our intelligence and serious act of irresponsibility and betrayal” on the Nigerian people.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the convener, Ms. Annkio Briggs, said:
“Fellow Nigerians and specifically the great people, Governments, Senators, Members of House of Representatives, State Assembly Members and LGA Chairmen, while the news headlines this afternoon states that ‘President Buhari Suspends Ruga Projects”, we the people of the Niger Delta you represent view this as an act of insult, disrespect on our intelligence and serious act of irresponsibility and betrayal by pretending to think that we the people have seemingly misunderstood him about the RUGA project plans to forcefully take away, dispossess the land of the rightful owners, the INDIGENOUS People and give said lands and Riverine, Mangrove, Swamp and Creek communities to his kit and kin the Fulani of other African countries roaming across the African continent in the delusion that Nigeria and perhaps the African continent belongs to them by culture, religion and any other belief.
“We cannot allow this step down to deceive us, the thousands of murders against Indigenous peoples and Christians is not a menace of herdsmen and farmers clash it is rather the genocidal persecution of Christians and displacement of the indigenous peoples of Nigeria
“While we must await further development and further explanation to go forward we must not think this is solution of the plans to forcefully remove the indigenous peoples of Nigeria particularly of the Niger Delta from our ancestral homelands.
“We watch out for the Stakeholders that were consulted to shelf the idea pending a thorough review and well acceptable approach to what will remain unacceptable to us as the indigenous people of the South of Nigeria and particularly the Niger Delta,” stated NDSDM.
