The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, has been high, Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Dakar, Senegal, to the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Lion by the Head of State of Senegal, Macky Sall also chairman of the Conference of heads of State and Government of the regional organization.
This high distinction was awarded to him by President Macky Sall in recognition of the numerous and loyal service he has rendered to the West African community during his four years as head of the ECOWAS Commission.
During his tenure, the West Africa has seen significant progress in terms of peace and regional security as well as in the areas of regional economic integration, suggested the Senegalese Head of State.
“I congratulate you for the excellent work you performed, your competence recognized by all and also for your progress for ECOWAS during your term. Your mandate was very short for us, but so goes the life of institutions. Get through my voice, the congratulations of all Heads of State and Government of the community. It gives me great pleasure to tell you during this farewell visit, all the satisfaction of our community space for the excellent work that you shot, “said Macky Sall.
During this farewell visit, the President of the ECOWAS Commission has expressed his gratitude to the Senegalese head of state for the personal support he has had to get him, but also for the great progress made by the west African community during his tenure as chairman of the regional organization.
Ouedraogo has particularly mentioned the resolution, under the supervision of Macky Sall, major political crises that have shaken the ECOWAS region, the finalization of negotiations on Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) between West Africa and European Union and the adoption on 25 October 2013 in Dakar, the common external Tariff of ECOWAS (TEC / CEDEDAO).
Kadré Desire Ouedraogo thanked the Senegalese head of State for admission to the National Order of the Lion to the rank of Commander. He dedicated his distinction of all ECOWAS institutions for their dedication to work for the achievement of community goals.
“I would like to express my gratitude for this distinction you kindly give me. And this distinction, I dedicate it to all the staff of the institutions of the community who work in the service of integration in West Africa. I am very grateful and I express the gratitude of the entire staff and all ECOWAS institutions for what you had done for regional integration, “said Ouédraogo.
Kadré Desire Ouedraogo was decorated by Macky Sall on the occasion of his imminent departure of the head of the ECOWAS Commission at the end of his four-year term.
Questioned by the first channel of Radio and Television Senegal (RTS) on its balance sheet, Mr. Ouédraogo praised its efforts to strengthen regional integration, recalling that it is a work that is never finished.
“Everyone has to contribute and passed the torch on to others. I am honored to have had the privilege of serving our region to this high level of responsibility and I think all West African populations should be proud of the record that I leave behind and that is not my personal assessment but the of all the institutions of the community. We must have at heart to continue, consolidate and especially to accelerate the pace of our regional integration to participate in the unification of the African continent, “concluded Mr. Ouédraogo.
Elected in February 2012, Kadré Desire Ouedraogo succeeded Ghanaian diplomat James Victor Gbeho and took the reins of the ECOWAS Commission on 1 March 2012.
Former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) and former Deputy Executive Secretary of ECOWAS, Kadré Desire Ouedraogo also been his country’s ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
