Three commercial sex workers were reportedly burnt to death in the commercial town of Nnewi in Anambra State.
News of the fire outbreak at one joint, close to Akwu udo at Otolo Nnewi, that killed some ladies was reported to ElombahNews by a correspondent.
According to the correspondent, who later passed through there to verify the authenticity of the report, the incident happened last night.
He explained that the place of the incident is called “obodo umuanumanu”, which literally means “animals land”.
The fire accident happened shortly after the recent inferno in Onitsha which claimed lives and destroyed properties worth billions of naira.
The alleged sex workers were said to have been trapped in the fire because they were unable to escape due to the fact that the room they occupied was locked.
The owner of the brothel was said to have locked it up and left with the keys the night before the incident occurred.
The Commissioner for Police in Anambra State, John Bassey Abang, confirmed the incident saying the inferno actually consumed three ladies but said they were workers in the joint.
Abang said that it was a drinking joint and the waiters who did a sleepover at the joint all lost their lives in the inferno.
He described the incident as very unfortunate.
