Total CAF Super Cup: Pre-match quotes from coaches and captains

0

As Egyptian giants Al Ahly face Morocco’s RS Berkane in Friday’s match in Doha, Qatar, in the 29th edition of Total CAF Super Cup, here are some quotes from the coaches and captains from the pre-match press conference on Thursday, according to the website of Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane –

We know RS Berkane is a very strong team and they have a good new coach and talented players. They are always doing well on the international scene and we respect them much. This is a final so it’s a 50-50 game and both sides have equal chances to win the cup.

For us, we want to win, and we must work well to achieve that. During the past weeks, we had many tough games in the league and in the CAF Champions League, in addition to many travels. We will make sure to be well prepared. Maybe we are physically tired, but we are mentally ready.

Every match comes with its pressure. Al Ahly is always expected to win, and we want to do that and make our supporters at home happy.

As Al Ahly coach and on behalf of my players, we always have the support of our fans and board. Our role is to deliver and give them the results they want; we know our responsibilities well.

In the FIFA Club World Cup here (in Doha), we had a great support from our fans, and I’m looking forward to seeing them again. Football is much different without supporters because they give us energy and play the 12th player’s role.

This is a final, and we are ready to get the result we want. We will do our best to raise the trophy and make our fans happy.

Al Ahly captain Mohamed Elshenawy –

It is a tough game, and we want to win the trophy. We’ve been in camp for a long time since Mamelodi Sundowns game and now we are here to win.

We have been here in Doha before for the FIFA Club World Cup and it was a great experience. Now we want to win the Super Cup again after seven years of our last victory (in 2014).

We know the importance of this match, and in Al Ahly we are always playing to win. We want to bring the cup back home for our supporters to celebrate.

We are working very hard as a team and know well our responsibilities. Al Ahly won the CAF Super Cup six times, but most of the current players did not win it before so we want to do it for the seventh time and make our fans happy.

RS Berkane coach Juan Pedro Benali –

This is a final between two big teams. We know Al Ahly very well and they are one of the biggest teams in Africa. But this is a football game that would be played on the pitch and we are waiting for it.

In football, there are no surprises. We will play a game of 90 minutes and possibly penalties and let’s see who wins afterwards. If we thought that our win is a surprise we would not have come here.

This is a different competition from the domestic one. In the league we had many injured and fatigued players. But now we had enough time to prepare for this game.

We respect Al Ahly much, but there is no place for fear. This is a football game, and we have our chances too. We need to be ready for any scenario and will be prepared for everything.

I spent some time as a coach here in Qatar, and the country is making great efforts towards hosting sports events and I believe they are ready to host a historical World Cup. We are happy to be here.

RS Berkane captain Mohamed Aziz –

It is a special game against The Club of the Century as Al Ahly is called. RS Berkane is also a champion team, and we will do our best against Al Ahly who are considered the favorites, but we are up to the challenge.

Facing Al Ahly is tough because they are one of the strongest teams in the continent. But we know we can challenge them and hopefully this is going to be a good game between two champion sides. The team that prepares well will win.

Al Ahly has a lot of very good players, and I like them as a team. But I also admire my Moroccan compatriot, Badr Benoun, who joined them lately and have added a lot to the team.
