Ugochinyere arrested by security operatives in Abuja
The Spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has been arrested by security operatives on Thursday.
Ikenga Ugochinyere is the spokesperson of the 38 opposition political parties coalition.
He was arrested by the Police operatives at his residence in Abuja at the instance of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
ElombahNews gathered that he is being detained at the police facility in Maitama, Abuja, as at the time of this report.
Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja, in a subsisting judgement on on June 4, barred the Police and the Department of State Services from arresting Ugochinyere.
Ugochinyere, it could be recalled, was reported by ElombahNews On August 14, 2019, to have resigned as the National Publicity Secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council [IPAC].
A Chairman of the Action Peoples Party, Ugochinyere’s resignation was contained in a letter addressed to IPAC National Chairman, Mr Peter Ameh, dated August 8.
He stated in the letter which was copied to the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, that he would not seek re-election during the then forthcoming IPAC National Executive Committee election.
He said: “After consultation with my associates and family, I have decided to resign my position as IPAC National Publicity Secretary with immediate effect and also announce my intention not to seek re-election at the upcoming IPAC National Executive Committee election.”
According to him, his resignation was based on the need to allow a neutral person to speak for IPAC.
