Umahi: Governor, aides tests positive to Covid-19
The Ebonyi State government confirmed this in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji.
According to the statement, Governor Umahi and some of his close aides tested positive for the virus after the coronavirus test were carried out.
Umahi, it was learned, presently is not showing any symptoms but has been isolated in line with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols.
ElombahNews was reliably informed that the Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, has taken over the frontline coordination of the Covid-19 fight.
In the meantime, the Governor is working from home and shall be conducting all his meetings virtually.
Umahi appealed to Ebonyi people to take the NCDC protocols seriously in order to avoid getting infected.
The statement reads:
The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE has directed me to inform the good people of Ebonyi State that his test and that of some of his aides unfortunately returned positive to COVID-19.
The Governor and the affected aides are showing no symptoms but have since self isolated in line with NCDC Protocols.
The Governor has therefore directed his Deputy, His Excellency Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, PhD., to take over the frontline coordination of our fight against Coronavirus Pandemic to protect our people from the scourge of the virus..
The Governor reiterates his determination to pursue vigorously the course of our people especially in trying times like now.
He enjoins our people to take the NCDC Protocols more seriously.
The Governor is working from home and shall be conducting all his meetings virtually.
Very soon he will test negative and rejoin in our concerted efforts in the battle against Coronavirus Pandemic.

On Friday, July 3, Nigeria discovered 454 new cases of Covid-19 while Ebonyi has recorded total of 438 cases.
Out of the 438 cases, 357 persons have been successfully treated and discharged while three have died.
