Unemployment: Pumpkin Farmers, Processors Want Youths Involved


The National President of pumpkin farmers and growers under the aegis of Pumpkin Growers Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (PUGMAN) Engr Uche Enugha has described Pumpkin leaves and fruit as good food supplement that were useful for the treatment of various ailments and to maintain a healthy body.

Enough a who spoke at the opening ceremony of the South East zonal Conference of the association in Awka yesterday, noted that there was a regular huge market and demand for it, he therefore appealed for more youths to join in its farming and processing.

He said the involvement of youths would help alleviate unemployment, idleness, criminality and increase output.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Afam Mbanefo disclosed that the State Government has provided an enabling environment and Security for Investment in the State. 

He therefore urged mechanized agro-based investors to come to savor the conducive operational environment and climate in the state.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Comrade Leo Imoka stated that youths were being sensitized to involve themselves actively in Agriculture for the benefit of everybody.

He pointed out that the vision of Gov Willie Obiano was to fight crime and unemployment with Job creation. 

The Chairman of the occasion Chief Christopher Obiakazie said that Pumpkin has many benefits to people from different walks of life.

A participant, Mr Jude Nwankwo commended the youths for their involvements in agriculture, said that it is now a lucrative business.
