Governor Tambuwal has, in the last three years of his administration, revamped the education sector in the state by declaring a ‘State of Emergency’ on the sector, thereby constituting three different committees as chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

Sokoto State Government on Wednesday, February 15, 2018, approved more than N1.6 billion contract for the provision of furniture, books and other educational materials in primary and secondary schools in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Sokoto, Alhaji Isah Achida, Commissioner for Information, said over N200 million of the amount was for the provision of furniture to schools in Sokoto South, Sokoto East and Sokoto Central senatorial districts.

He said the approved funds would also be used to procure mattresses and beds for Sheikh Gumi Memorial College, Sultan Bello, Hafsat Bello and Abdullahi Barau secondary schools.

Also, on June 27, 2017, the Sokoto State government had declared a state of emergency on education in the state.

The Sultan Abubakar-led 27-man Education Revitalisation and Strengthening Committee, constituted by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, had vowed to sack all unqualified teachers in the state.

The committee insisted that “there are many of them, with some of them always absent from their duty posts.”

Inaugurating the committee during the 2017 Annual General Meeting of the Sokoto Education Development Trust Fund, SEDTF, at the Sultan’s palace, Governor Tambuwal said over N1 billion would be realised annually as education levy on salaries of civil and public servants in the state.

In the latest development, the  Chairman of the Award Committee, Dr. Hul Hsu, noted that the Governor has made an exceptional contribution to quality education.

He said: “We have great pleasure in inviting you to our 2018 Education Solutions Stakeholders Award.

“This event will recognize personalities who have made exceptional contribution to quality education and we are delighted to inform His Excellency that he is nominated to receive the 2018 Education Solutions Stakeholders Award in recognition of your selfless contribution to quality education in Sokoto state,” Dr Hsu said.

Dr Hul Hsu further stated that the award is a sign that Governor Tambuwal is working towards a better educational policy in Sokoto state.

Similarly, Commissioner for Higher Education in the state was also honoured with Advisor Education Solutions for UNESCO in recognition for his selfless contribution to the development of grassroots and community education in Sokoto state.
