The Marriage between a Professor of Library and Information Science, Professor Benki S. H. Womboh, of Modibbo Adama University of Technology ,Yola
and his warmongering wife Mrs Grace Ayoo of Nbakaayan kuduv district of Buruku LGA council in Benue state had hit the rocks over alleged threat to life and marriage unfaithfulness.
The Librarian narrates his marriage as a bitter experience of ups and downs with a wife who inflicted untold pains to him, his reason to depose her with six children over extra-marital affairs.
Womboh, 67, went as far as swearing an affidavit in a Federal High court of Nigeria sitting in Yola to disown them, stressing that he was fed up with their marriage.
Amongst other things, he cited threat to life and marital infidelity as reasons for abandoning the marriage since, as according to him, “there is no longer any love in the marriage.’’
He further told the court he had tried several times to reconcile their differences but all efforts proved abortive.
“There were several attempts to hold reconciliation meetings with Grace Ayoo, her children and family members but to no avail.
“Even a meeting was initiated at the instance of Grace Ayoo’s Pastor at NKST Akaajime, but she refused to attend,” he noted.
In the affidavit Professor Womboh said he was forced, out of sympathy and his friendship to late Pastor Jacob Ayoo, to contract a probational marriage with Grace Ayoo in August 1969 at Makurdi.
While fielding questions from newsmen, Womboh further regrets that the wife, Grace Ayoo, had shared the six (6) children of the marriage and gave him only one boy, who is now a legal luminary in Makurdi, Benue state.
‘’Grace Ayoo took away six girls and one boy (Friday Terungwa and Jessica Fumilayo are those initially know not to be my children) and sworn that they were not fathered by me. And to make matters worse, she married a security man from the then Benue Cement Company (now Dangote Cement Company) and she sued me, for divorce at a magistrate court at Makurdi.
“The court case was struck out because the man who married Grace Ayoo died and so she stopped attending the court,” said he.
Womboh also stated in the said affidavit that on Sunday 29th August 1999, Mr. Atile Ayoo, the new Family Head took Grace Ayoo and the five (5) children back to Womboh’s father at Tyowanye, Buruku Local Government, Benue State.
Although Womboh refused to take back the woman and five children, his father prevailed on him and so he accepted them back.
In his words, “But as a result of Grace Ayoo deserting the marriage at various times, I had to marry three other wives “in succession”, which means that as any one of them left he had to marry another one, because I do not want to be a bachelor at any point in time.
“When Grace Ayoo was brought back in 1999, she refused to recognize these other three wives and their four (4) children. On 9th June 2014 she invited me to her residence at Gboko and dictated new marital terms to me as follows:
“Drive away the other three wives,’’ and failure to comply, she vowed to take away the six (6) children from him and give them to her elder brother, Mr. Atile Ayoo, to be their father, just as she threatened to organize people to assassinate me and drive away the three wives and their children; and take away all of my properties.”
Womboh further explained that, ‘’ the six children, whose ages range from 36-46, have refused to call their mother to order not to make them bastards in the Nigerian society.
“The said children, either by means of a devilish spell or covenant, have become so gullible that whatsoever their mother says, they accept hook, line and sinker!” He exclaimed.
