*Both Obiano and Peter Obi knelt, prayed together at burial service of their late school Principal, Fr Tagbo
*Obi pledges support for Obiano; when would Obi and Victor Umeh reconcile?
It was a show of innate humility and strength of character yesterday afternoon when Gov Willie Obiano openly apologized to his predecessor for any wrong he may have done to him.
This visibly prompted the former Gov Peter Obi to approach the podium and warmly embraced him, to the admiration of all present.
It was at the burial mass of late Rev Fr Nicholas Tagbo under whom both leaders were once students, held at the Assembly ground of their alma mater -Christ the King’s College(CKC), Onitsha, Anambra State.
The historical reconciliation and fence-mending meeting, seem divine, deeply emotional and from the heart as other such moves initiated by well-meaning citizens including clerics in the past had ended in fiasco.
It could be recollected that relations of the former governor were forced to issue a widely publicized media statement recently when one such patch-up meeting failed yet again, raising alarm over fears of the safety of their son.
But the burial event of their late former secondary school Principal appears to have evoked the deep emotions when they must have reminisced on the ideals of CKC and the late educationist.
It impost have thawed all resilience and the humble side of the two clearly initiated by Obiano took over.
The farewell service was well attended event with dignitaries who were former students of the late cleric cum educationalist.
It includes the former Governor of Rivers state Peter Odili, former Presidential aspirant, Prof Pat Utomi, the Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, Sen Mike Ajegbo amongst many others.
And in what could be best described as swift and surprising to all in attendance, Gov Obiano in the most humble manner found only in well-meaning leaders openly apologized to his predecessor for any wrong he may have done to him.
This quickly caught the attention of all present who praised the move as depicting a rare strength of character, exceptionally emotional, commendable and worthy of emulation.
Because at that point, together they knelt down at the altar and the Archbishop Metropolitan, Ecclesiastical Province of Onitsha, Most Rev Valerian Okeke who was also a student of the late Fr Tagbo prayed for them.
Archbishop Val Okeke said Father Tagbo even in death has remained a bridge builder.
He thanked the duo for putting aside their differences and uniting to work for the growth of the state, describing it as mark of true Christians.
He commended Gov Obiano for this display of statesmanship found in only few committed leaders.
Speaking later, Gov Obiano noted that their late former school Principal had taught them to love and pursue unity with one another.
He said it is only proper for him to apologize, although he did not know what the challenges were between them.
He stated that the former governor did exceptionally well while his administration lasted and he came on the platform of continuity and is determinedly taking Anambra to the next level.
That he was committed to giving his best in the service of the State as he was taught by the late father Tagbo.
Ex-Gov Obi also pointed out that what is at stake was beyond both of them him, noting that as a christian, he was under obligation to forgive whenever there was cause to.
He pledged his total support to the Obiano administration in its efforts to build a better Anambra for the younger generation which he noted, the leaders of today must give account of their stewardship tomorrow.
Incidentally, he now belongs to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) while Obiano is of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA).
And Obi has already pitched his political tent with a new bride he has publicly affirmed he would work with come 2017 guber election in the state.
After this event now referred to in Anambra political circle as ” the drama of Fr Tagbo”, when would Obi’s reconciliation with Chief Victor Umeh, the general who led the entire political battle that made him governor?
Other Old Boys who spoke at the event, include Prof Utomi, Dr Peter Emetulam and Dr Mike Ejiofor took turns to eulogise the late Father Tagbo as a master moulder of men. always buy credit card dumps their presence guarantees success
In his remarks, the Member representing Njikoka One Constituency in the State Assembly, Dr Timothy Ifedioranma said the reunion shows greater prospects for the development of the state.
He added that Gov Obiano and Obi have proved to be leaders with passion for the state.
