UPDATE: Police Seize Wadume’s Properties, Probe His Accounts
Some properties belonging to suspected kidnap kingpin Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, have been seized by security operatives comprising of the panel probing the killing of policemen by soldiers at Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.
ElombahNews gathered that the panel is also probing bank accounts belonging to him.
It was learnt that properties included those owned by Wadume in Taraba and other states, as well as those he allegedly built for friends and some community leaders.
Wadume, it could be recalled, was arrested on August 6 by an elite squad of Police anti-kidnapping squad who were intercepted by soldiers manning a check point with three of them along with a civilian murdered instantly.
The soldiers freed Wadume, the suspected kidnap kingpin, who is currently on the run while the police have launched a manhunt for him.
Also, over 20 vehicles found in his transport company, including the private cars, have been impounded and taken to the Wukari police station.
Thirteen of the vehicles are Volkswagen Sharon.
People close to him, including his employees at Wadume’s Transport business, the manager, drivers, associates and some beneficiaries of his benevolence have reportedly fled over fear of arrest.
Sources close to him also disclosed that his arrest scuttled his planned turbaning as “the Sarkin Matasa” (Youths Leader) in Ibi during the past Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
In other development, meanwhile, ElombahNews gathered that the army captain who ordered the shooting of the operatives and release of Wadume is being interrogated by security operatives in Abuja.
Further, two policemen attached to the local Police Division in Ibi have been arrested and taken to Abuja.
They are being grilling by members of the probe panel, along with the arrested security agents to ascertain whether they colluded with the kidnap kingpin and his accomplices during the incident.
The two army checkpoints between Ibi and Wukari local government areas have been dismantled.
In the meantime, the Young Democratic Party has described as ‘untrue’ reports that Wadume was its member.
The party said it had “no record of his membership whatsoever” and dispelled reports that Wadume contested the Taraba State House of Assembly on its platform during the 2019 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the acting National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Rufun Jauro, YDP asked the security agencies to unravel the mystery behind the incident and bring all those culpable to justice.
