The Senate, on Thursday, has ordered its committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petition to proceed with process of issuance of Warrant of Arrest on the former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde over alleged financial crimes and corruption.

The directive is based on the allegation of diversion of over N1 trillion EFCC recovered loot by one George Uboh.

The following are some of the recommendations of Ethics and Privileges Committee on Lamorde:

1. That to save National Assembly, as the highest law-making body of the nation, from irreparable damage to its reputation and capacity to summon, the former EFCC chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, be compelled to appear before the committee to answer for activities of his tenure

2. That to effect recommendation “1” above, a warrant of arrest be issued by the Senate for his arrest.

The Senate may wish to consider and adopt the recommendation of the committee as proposed.

After the presentation the report of the Committee Senate asked its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to comply with relevant Sections of the Constitution that empowered it to issue a warrant of arrest on Lamorde for refusing to appear before it when invited.

The 11-man committee investigated allegations of financial crimes and corruption brought against Lamorde by Dr. George Uboh.

While presenting the report, Anyanwu told the Senate that after a series inviting Lamorde to appear before the committee to tell his own side of the story on allegations of financial crime and corruption leveled against him by Dr. Uboh, the former EFCC boss failed to honour the invitation.

He said three letters of invitation written to invite Lamorde to appear before the committee dated 19th August 2015, 3rd November 2015 and 11 November, 2015 but Larmode ignore the invitation of the committee.
