Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers exchanged blows when the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila announced Hon. Ndidi Elumelu as Minority leader.
The National leadership of PDP in a letter obtained by our correspondent revealed Kingsley Chinda was nominated as Minority leader.
But, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Gbajabiamila announced Elumelu as the Minority leader of the House of Representatives.
Chinda had raised a point of order but the Speaker ruled him out of order.
It was gathered that the chaos started when Kingsley Chinda and some lawmakers loyal to him snatched the mace, which turned the ongoing plenary to a rowdy session, and subsequently to an abrupt end.
Chinda’s group were protesting that the letter read by the Speaker, which purportedly nominated Elumelu as Minority Leader did not emerge from the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and as such is “null and void.”
