Who ‘doctored’ Buhari’s Arms Procurement committee report and why?

The President Muhamamdu Buhari set up an investigative committee to look into arms procurement from 2007-2015

The committee has submitted its first interim report detailing corruption by all the top army wigs of that era except –wait for it—- two army Generals who are currently serving under President Buhari -Gen Dambazu former Chief of Army staff under Late President Umaru Yar’adua and Major General Tukur Buratai  the saver who was then army’s chief procurement officer.

Buratai is the current Chief of Army Staff, who served as Director of Procurements, Defence Headquarters, from 2012 till May 2015.

Which of course raised eyebrows.

“…A frontline Second Republic politician and Northern leader, Dr. Junaid Mohammed told The Guardian yesterday that some cabal in the Presidency doctored the Arms Procurement Probe Report to shield the former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Interior, Major General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) and former Director of Procurements, Defence Headquarters, who is also current Chief Of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai.

And Lying Lai Mohammed of course denied it:

“…In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said what has been released so far is the report of the audit covering the period 2011 to 2015, adding that the Committee would commence the audit of procurement from 2007 to 2010 as soon as the necessary documents are available.”

Unfortunately for Mohammed it seems there are people in the Government itself leaking information. Clearly the report shows that the committee has looked at 2007-2010 contrary to Mohammed’s claims , indicted both Dambazu and Burantai.

It is now obvious to the entire world that anyone that is in President Buhari’s good books can never be adjudged as corrupt even if such a person is caught looting the entire money in Nigeria’s treasury.

There are many petitions relating to Defence from 2007 that are being discarded, the question is why?

There are several petitions against APC leaders that are not being looked into. The question is why?

Fighting corruption and targeting only opponents of the President is, in itself, corruption.

Buhari’s’ Minister of Interior, Major General (Lt. Gen.) Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), was Chief of Army Staff between 2008 and 2010 and the current Chief Of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, served as Director of Procurement, Defence Headquarters, from 2012 till May, 2015.

It is a fact that the committee, in its terms of reference, said it queried all procurement from 2007 to 2015. Even the press release issued was titled, ‘Third Interim Report of the Presidential Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement from 2007 to 2015.’

The first paragraph of the committee report also indicated that it used 2007-2015 as reference, stating that the committee ‘analysed procurement contracts awarded by or for the Nigerian Army between 2007 and 2015’.

Questions Nigerians must now begin to ask President Buhari and his government are: where is the report of the Presidential Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement relating to 2007 to 2010? Who ‘doctored’ the committee report and why?

Lai Mohammed said the committee would commence the audit of procurement from 2007 to 2010 ‘as soon as the necessary documents are available’.

It is necessary that Nigerians are told who the custodians of the documents are. Why were documents on procurement from 2011 and 2015 available and those of 2007 to 2010 not available

The Government says its committee has NOT reviewed 2007-2010. Those accusing the government of cover up point to specific sections of the committee report made public by the Government itself that indicate that the committee has indeed reviewed the period 2007-2010.

You can see for yourself in Premium Times investigative report:

Regardless of your view of whether or not the Premium Times is ‘bogus’ , the report of the Govt committee made public by the Government speaks for itself.

In this situation what exactly is Femi Adesina supposed to do in a mini briefing? Deny the report released by Govt? OK maybe some Wailers ‘padded’ the report without the Government’s knowledge.
