Press Release

Yesterday, Sunday the 7th of April is World Health Day. The World Health Organization (WHO) has set the theme for this year’s commemoration as “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone Everywhere.” All the stakeholders are encouraged to mark the day via the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and look into the necessary steps need to be taken in order to achieve the theme. This year’s commemoration is primed in concert with the health program of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF).

Sir Emeka Offor Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Nigeria basically focused on helping the less privileged to access the basic needs of life while helping them to attain self-reliance. Sir Emeka Offor Foundation over the years has continuously invested heavily in healthcare of the less privileged in the society with the aim of reaching the unreached for the attainment of universal health for all. The foundation has specific interest in polio eradication, onchocerciasis elimination, mental health awareness, cure for glaucoma and universal free health care services for poor rural dwellers at health center built by the foundation.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) of the Federal government will help in bridging the gap between people that can access healthcare as and when needed and those that lack access entirely if well implemented. The right to healthcare law should be domesticated by every World Health Organization country to close the gap in universal healthcare for everyone everywhere. It is at the level of implementation that non-governmental organizations need to synergize with government agencies for effective and optimum result and SEOF is a leader in this direction.

The founder of the foundation, Sir Emeka Offor calls for concerted effort towards universal health attainment especially governments in the African region. Governments in the African region should drive the sensitization to close the gap between the region and the rest of the world in universal healthcare. He also called on all stake holders to increase their efforts and funding for appreciable result toward universal health coverage goal. Sir Emeka Offor Foundation is equally committed to increasing efforts, manpower and monetary commitment to achieving universal health coverage. Sir Emeka Offor Foundation joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Health day.
