Yuletide: Azubogu seeks early traffic management plans for Anambra
Says proactive traffic management plans will make our road free from traffic during this period
Engr Chris Emeka Azubogu has called for early traffic management plans ahead of Christmas and New Year period in Anambra State, were heavy traffic is experienced across the state hambering movement from one place to another.
The Nnewi, Anambra State born Federal Lawmaker made the call yesterday in Awgbu, Anambra State after attending the burial service of late Sir Joseph Nwankwo Ezibe, father of Chief Okey Ezibe.
“I want the state Ministry of Transport to put out early traffic management plans ahead of Christmas and New Year mass return in Anambra State so that we can have a smooth flow of traffic in the state during this period” Azubogu said.
You may recall that Anambra State usually experience traffic bottlenecks across the state during Christmas and New year seasons.
The lawmaker reiterated that with properly plans in place, we can have smooth traffic flow within this period in the state.
“This is not a rocket science, but a call for immediate plans. Thank God that this period has dates that are consistent which should allow us to put out a workable plans ahead of time in order to manage it.”
For example, I expect Anambra State Ministry of Transport to collaborate with her counterparts in Delta, Enugu and Imo State to put up Inter-State traffic management plans for this season under intergovernmental relations through State-State so that we will have smooth flow of traffic especially at entry and exit points of the state like Onitsha Bridge Head, a major boundary point with Delta State.”
The ministry should also collaborate with Federal Government under State-Federal Intergovernmental relations that will see federal agencies like Federal Road Safety Corp(FRSC) collaborating with the state government on how to achieve free traffic bottlenecks during this period.” He said.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka trained Engineer, Azubogu appealed to state Ministry of Works and Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to put out road Maintenance plan ahead of Christmas and New year season in the state which he said will change the reoccurring situation of traffic bottlenecks during the yuletide season.
“I also appeal to our state Ministry of Works and Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to fix some of these damaged portions of our roads ahead of Christmas/New year mass return in the state so that it will help reduce traffic bottlenecks during this period” he appealed.
The man fondly referred to as ‘Mr Project’, stated that as the second most densely populated state per square meter in Nigeria, that Anambra State should pay attention on traffic management especially at the annual December/New year period.
