The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of their leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.
The call was made Friday, when members of the movement took to the streets in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, chanting songs, carrying flags and banner with the picture of Zakzaky.
In a release given to journalist by the protesters signed by Isah Sani Muhammad the leader of the Youth forum of the movement, condemned in strong terms the continuing illegal detention of Zakzaky despite court order for his release.
He said it is over 600 days since the Nigerian Army launched a coordinated attack on members of the IMN that killed hundred of people in Zaria.
The statement mentioned in details the ugly incident that took place in Zaria after about 40 hours of indiscriminate shooting and bombing by the Nigerian Army, which it described as a gross violation of the fundamental Human Rights.
It stated in part “These demonic act perpetrated by the Nigerian Army has not only raised the Human Rights Abuse records, but has also turned a lot of women into widows, children into orphans and has also succeeded in wiping out a lot of families, to which no ramose was shown by the state authorities for what was undoubtedly a war crimes against fellow Nigerians”
The IMN however called upon the Kaduna state government not to temper with the site of the mass graves where it admitted to have buried 347 of those killed by the Nigerian military last year December in Zaria because it is a crime scene.
“We call on the government of Kaduna to summon courage and live to its morality and accept it crime y paying Diyyah to all affected families “, it stated further.
